At the 2016 ipl , Kohli broke the record for most runs in an IPL season (of 733 runs) by scoring 973 runs in 16 matches at an average of 81.08, and won the orange cap  He scored four centuries in the tournament, having never scored one in the Twenty20 format before the start of the season, and also became the first player to reach the 4000-run milestone in the IPL. Bangalore finished runners-up in the tournament.

Kohli is a naturally aggressive batsmanwith strong technical skills.He usually bats in the middle-order, but, on many occasions, has opened the innings as well. He bats with a slightly open-chested stance  and a strong bottom-hand gripand is said to have quick footwork. He is known for his wide range of shots, ability to pace an innings and batting under pressure.He is strong through the mid-wicket and cover region. He has said that the cover drive is his favourite shot, while also saying that the flik shot  comes naturally to him. He does not play the sweep shot  often, being called "not a natural sweeper of the cricket ball". His teammates have praised his confidence, commitment, focus and work ethics. Kohli is also known to be a "sharp" fielder.

In January 2015, India failed to win a single match in the  tri nation one day series against the hosts Australia and England. Kohli was unable to replicate his Test success in ODIs, failing to make a two-digit score in any of the four games  Kohli's ODI form did not improve in the lead-up to the World Cup, with scores of 18 and 5 in the warmup matches against Australia and Afghanistan respectively.





In the first match of the world cup against Pakistan at Adelaide, Kohli hit 107 in 126 balls, sharing 100-plus partnerships with both Dhawan and Raina, to help India set a total of 300 and win the match by 76 runs. After husbands die, women are not allowed to wear sindoor or colourful clothes. Their clothes must be white, or colourless, and they must remove all the colours from their bodies, all the happinesses from their minds, all the smiles from their faces, and they must stop eating good nutritious food, fish or meat or protein, and they must look ugly and unattractive and they must die slowly.

For Bengali women, this last ritual — Sindoor Khela or Sindoor Utsav — holds much significance. “The sindoor is a symbol of married life. We first apply it on the idol of Goddess Durga on Vijayadashami and then on other Bengali women while wishing them a happy married life and good luck,” explains Roy, a 30-year-old schoolteacher.



The ritual owes its origins to the belief that the goddess is heading for her in-laws’ house. “We believe that Maa has come to her mother’s house for five days. On the last day, she goes back to her in-laws’ house. So, we try to give her a royal treatment with food and sweets and conduct an aarti, besides applying sindoor on her,” explains Sushmita Chowdhury, another devotee. “For this day, we make a special Dadhikarma — a sweet for the goddess.”

Devotees believe that if it the ritual is followed to a tee, “no widowhood ever touches any woman,” claims Aunsua Roy, a 35-year-old college professor. Revelry plays a key role in the ritual. Once the sindoor is applied on the goddess’ idol, every married woman around is ‘fair game’. “We apply it on each other’s forehead and also on iron bangles that we wear,” says Roy.
The ritual is not strictly restricted to married women. “Sometimes, even young girls apply [the sindoor], but that is only out of devotion for the goddess,” says Manobi Ghosh, a 52-year-old homemaker.
